page_IMPACT_Youth_SummitOn May 28th, I went to Hanover Ontario to attend the Impact Youth Summit event at the Hanover P&H centre.  When we arrived and registered we received a goodie bag, T-Shirt, and a pine sapling!.  There were around 200 other delegates, all teenagers.  We have a great time learning about how to present ourselves, speaking to people, how to set achievable goals, and more.  We watched a magician and enjoyed musical entertainment at lunch.  All in all it was a wonderful day and I feel energized and more confident.

For one of my fundraising events, I chose to hold a garage sale with all of the proceeds going to “Feed the Children”.  I cleaned out my house of unused things.  I have also had wonderful support from my grandparents, great aunt and great grandfather, as well as my former principal who donated items for me to sell.  It will take place on May 21st on Claude Street in Wiarton. At the home of my Great Grandfather ( who is 100 years old by the way).  Hope the rain holds off.

I have been so busy with school and sports that I have finally found some time to let you all know about a wonderful weekend I had  in April.   On April 15 and 16th I accompanied a bus load of kids from my area to the Tim Hortons Camp (Onondaga Farms) in St. George.  The group was supported by the Ontario Provincial Police, South Bruce Peninsula Detachment and joined up with kids supported by other OPP detachments in western region.

Lucky kids were chosen to go to this camp and create new and wonderful experiences.  We developed our leadership skills through low ropes courses, team building activities and games, camp fires, nature crafts, and much more.  We all made new friends and ate delicious food.  It was an honor for me to represent Missteenage Canada as well and my local area at such fabulous place.

Hello there,  Greta Gilbert here and I just have to tell you about a way cool fund raising event I had the privilege of helping with.  The event was the 4th annual art auction to raise money for the Amabel-Sauble Child Care Center.  The cool part is that the kids in the day care, make most of the art, (some is donated by local artists). The parents of the kids bid to by the pieces. there was some very lively bidding.  considering the kids are between 18 months and 4 years old, the pieces sold for amazing amounts, some got over $100.  I was able to show the pieces around while they were being sold.  It was so much fun.  It was a great evening.

I am so very happy to finally be able to start blogging.

My name is Greta and I live and go to school in Bruce and Grey Counties. (that is 2.5 hours northwest of Toronto on the Beautiful Bruce Peninsula.  Many of you may have visited Sauble Beach or Tobermory, 2 of my favourite places near to me.

I have had the honour of attending many events as Miss Teenage Bruce/Grey County.  These have included; The Wiarton Willie Festival, Syrup Festival, and a Tim Hortons Kids Camp.  I feel blessed to be able to give my time to help promote such wonderful community events.IMG_3704

My Platform for the pageant is to give underprivileged girls experiences that will help them to understand their themselves better and improve their self confidence.  I hope to be able to be a role model and give these girls a chance to see all that they are capable of for their future.

Hey everyone! Hope you are all enjoying your week as much as I am! Yesterday we had the pleasure to go to Toronto Eaton Center for lunch. When we got there we were greeted by the shoppers. They looked very surprised to see all the pretty girls with the crowns. We had great photo opportunities with the public and the staff of the Richtree Taco Bus. Who knew that right in the middle of the Eaton Center there was an authentic blue and white Volkswagon bus that served what could possibly be the best tacos and burritos that I have ever tasted!! I got two of the fish tacos with lettuce, chipotle, cheese, and beer battered fish. With the old styled bottle of Sprite on the side, this lunch definitely hit the spot!! Some of the lovely ladies that I was sitting with and who I am competing with would surely agree. I saw some girls who had ordered a beef burrito with black bean puree. If you live in, around, or far from the Greater Toronto Area I would recommend this hot spot to eat for you! A big thanks goes out to them for their sponsorship for #MTC2015

XOXO,

Sarah

Hey everyone, just thought I would give a quick update now that I am somewhat settled into my hotel room. My roommate is 15 year old Madison from Saskatchewan is super friendly!! We are talking about lots and comparing rules and laws from our home provinces. It is very interesting to see the differences between the two! Right now we have some down-time to relax before heading to the opening party, registration, and dinner. Just wanted to check in and say hi! I’m so excited to go to registration and get my gift bags and chat with all the other girls again and get my Ontario sash. I have been informed that interviews, video shoot, and photo shoot are tomorrow. Still don’t know when we will be on Breakfast Television but I promise I will let you know as soon as I do!! <3

Hey all! I am writing tonight from the Niagara Region in preparation of heading to Miss Teenage Canada tomorrow in Toronto. Before I go, I figured I would finish up my bog assignment so that I don’t have to worry too much about it when I get there! For our second blog assignment we have been instructed to write a little about our platform, what we are doing to promote it, and how we would use the title of Miss Teenage Canada to promote our title! As I sit here and write this, I think about how I got introduced to my platform. As I have mentioned before, when I was younger I had some issues with my mental health. But, I also knew many others who had gone through some of the same things that I did. It was a friend who had first introduced me to Wes for Youth Online. This is where it all started. After I had gone through the counselling of my own, it was nice to take a step back and see what this organization did and see how many it had helped. I think I focused my platform around mental health because I know that unless people can get themselves help to get over that barrier in their life, they aren’t really themselves. I also focused around Wes for Youth Online because without their services, I don’t know where I would be today, from a mental and in a physical standpoint.

I have been standing up with Wes for Youth Online as a part of my platform for the last seven months. It has been nice to represent them as a positive outcome from their program. I love to be able to help such an amazing group of ladies for such an amazing cause.

As Miss Teenage Canada, I would love to get around more and inform others more about the dangers of mental health. I would like to travel to elementary schools and tell them about the opportunities that they have. I want to not just promote improving mental health from bad to good but I want to promote increasing mental health from good to great! I also think that the best way to improve your mental health is to increase your  confidence. I want to send the message that it is okay to feel sad sometimes but your shouldn’t feel down on yourself all the time. But if this is the case, there are people to help you.

Thanks for reading! Remember, voting opens tomorrow so please please please vote for me!! You can sign up for VIP on the Miss Teenage Canada website then click the contestant that you would like to vote for (aka me 😉  ) I will put the link below!! Thanks for reading, wish me luck this week! I will blog again soon!

Hey everyone, just wanted to check in with you guys! Nationals is fast approaching and as I’m struggling to get everything done, more things keep coming up! With things getting crazy with Miss Teenage Canada, I also am working full time, have many family events coming up, and another pageant to prepare for. As I was looking at my list of things I still needed last weekend, I found that I only had one pair of shoes…. Not ideal but okay, it was a start. So I did not wait a second longer, I was online and ordered 4 more pairs of shoes for Toronto. Luckily they arrived all this week and not so lucky… not a single pair of them fit!! Also with the shoes, I have yet to get to a Garage Co. to spend the $100 gift card that they have provided me with to outfit myself. So this is my weekend… getting lists organized for registration, getting bags packed for a whole week, and going shoe shopping. Lets just hope that I can find some nice ones that are going to fit! Going back to my packing, I do mean bags. 8 in total actually.. I don’t know how the out of province girls are going to fit everything they need in a suitcase and a carry on. I have three suitcases (one of which contains three additional bags), a carry on, 3 dress bags, and my crown case. Some may say I have over packed but I think I am just going prepared!

As some of you may have seen, I have recently had a dress donated to me from Bridal Temptations in Hanover. I would just like to thank them again for the cocktail dress that I will be wearing for the photo shoot. I have had other companies do donations for me as well including product from both Mary Kay- Cheryl Neuman, and Mica Bacio Pure Mineral Make-up. I would like to the this time to say thank you to everyone who has helped me out with everything, including support, since the beginning.

Just wanted to give everyone a quick update and let people know that I am working towards a great trip to Toronto in only 8 short days!!

XOXO,
Sarah

Just a few weeks ago, from Newfound Land to British Columbia and everywhere in between, people put on their red and white to celebrate Canada Day! As my first blog assignment on my way to Miss Teenage Canada, we have been given our first topic to write on. That is right… How much I love this BEAUTIFUL country. Getting to walk in the middle of winter down an icy road with the moon shining all around and big snowflakes drifting down to the ground, that is what I love so much. The freedom to be in a place where I can experience all of the seasons wherever I would like. There are four great seasons and no one can experience them like Canadians.

The pride of Canadians is so overwhelming and makes me so proud to live in such a great place. From ages 0-100 people all over get all decked out in their red and white to celebrate the birthday of their great nation. For the past 3 years I have been working at a children’s carnival on Canada Day that is run by my work, Kamp Kummoniwannago. Each year I see hundreds of children that come out to support Canada and to play some fun games. Canadians love the land and the nation that they live in.

There are so many things across this land that attract people and bring them into these areas. Things like the West Edmonton Mall, CN Tower, Ottawa Parliament Buildings, Northern Lights, Calgary Stampede, and so many more. We have so much in this country to be proud of and to love. We are so lucky to be living in this free country with free healthcare, freedom, and such a miraculous scenery. These are the reasons that I love our country and I would never want to live anywhere else.

Thanks for reading my latest blog and supporting my journey to Miss Teenage Canada,

XOXO,

Sarah
